Santoku knives are a specific type of knife that originated in Japan and has recently become quite popular in the United States. Most santoku knives range in length from five inches to eight inches. Santoku knives are designed to have exquisite balance and functionality, while allowing the user enough flexibility to combine slicing, mincing, and dicing actions. The precision cutting allowed by the design of the santoku knives make them ideal for cutting into fish, vegetables, or any type of boneless meat. Santoku knives have become quite popular in major professional kitchens because of their flexibility, durability, and convenience. The santoku knives have inspired Westernized modifications that adhere to the balance and line of the traditional santoku knife while adding extra features for added convenience and functionality. Santoku knives have recently found their way into the hands of well-known and respected chefs and product spokespeople, including the famous Chef Tony.

Chef Tony was born Anthony Notaro and began his career in New York as a spokesman and professional demonstrator. Over the years Chef Tony has risen in the ranks of professional demonstrators and become one of the most recognizable names in product placement and advertising. Chef Tony is largely responsible for the rise of the infomercial, having written and directed several types of demonstration videos and advertisements. Chef Tony has been nominated for and has won several prestigious awards in the field of product presentation and demonstration. In 1996, Tony was selected as one of the top ten male presenters in the entire world in the field of Electronic Retailers. Finally in 2002, Chef Tony took home the highest award in his industry for TV host of the year. Chef Tony is known for his ability to relate to his target audience and sometimes ostentatiously draw attention to the product that he is advertising. One of his most memorable television advertisements can be found in several miracle blade infomercials. To demonstrate the effectiveness of a specific type of blade, Chef Tony slices a pineapple into two halves in midair. Chef Tony has attached his name to several types of successful kitchen products and appliances, although he is most famously associated with his miracle blade products.
